1994 CHELMSFORD LODGE OF ELKS

The 1994 Golden Lion Award was presented to the Chelmsford Lodge of Elks, Lodge 2310, which was established in 1964. The Lodge's membership consists of people who are caring and generous and act according to the adage "It is better to give than to receive." This Lodge has made innumerable contributions to the community, and there was only time to list a few. As of its 30th year, the Lodge had continuously given out $6000 yearly in scholarships to CHS students. For the preceding 12 years it had sponsored Student Government Day, allowing CHS students to spend the day with various members of the Town Government. The participants were treated to lunch, and, at the end of the day, the parents, students and officials were able to share a dinner. The Elks had also sponsored the Students of the Month and the two Students of the Year up until this time. The Activity Awards Night, when non-athletes were given recognition for their contributions to the school and community, was sponsored by the Elks, as well, and the recipients were presented with school sweaters. As of 1994, the After Prom Breakfast had been sponsored by the Elks since 1985. The flagpole that was erected in the end zone of CHS' George Simonian Alumni Stadium to honor the late football coach, Joe Nolan, was generously donated by the Elks. The donations of time and money, as well as the use of the Elks' facility, have been greatly appreciated by the entire CHS community!
