2007 CHELMSFORD TELEMEDIA 

In 2007, Chelmsford TeleMedia was the first recipient of the newly-named Lucy E. Simonian Golden Lion Award. At the time of its inception in 1980, this venture was a collaboration between Continental Cable and the Chelmsford Public Schools. Cy Locke and Matt Scott were hired to be its full time staff, and the rest is history. In 1984 Brad Emerson and Cy Locke created the Friends of Cable 43 Education Foundation. When the time came for the contract renewal with the cable provider in 1995, the Friends were the necessary non-profit needed for Cable 43 to have access through Colonial Cable. Kelly Beattie was hired and Matt Scott was taken out of the School Department and went to work for the non-profit. The media wing at Parker School, which houses Chelmsford TeleMedia, was the vision of Cy Locke. He saw it as a necessary part of the school, and it is situated so that it has easy external access. This makes it useful at all times of day. Tom Peterson, CHS '90, teaches all of the media related classes at no cost to the school system, and CTM provides an enormous amount of hands-on experience to the kids. The staff and myriad volunteers are available to the community for townspeople who want to put on a show. On a local and regional level, Matt Scott and CTM have won many awards.
